receiving paycheck from new employer without work permit

i'm a caregiver, if i have change my employer, do i need to wait for a work permit before i can start working in my new employer? if i work to my new employer prior to my work permit, can this affect my status in caregiver program? can i receive paycheck from a new employer prior to the new work permit? how long i will wait for the new job confirmation from HRSDC and the new work permit?
