Hi guys,

Does anyone know how to apply for a job in the Public Service? Do they have any specific requirements?

I'd like to add another question in a similar vein.

In most countries, Public service jobs are limited to nationals. I'm wondering whether this is true in Canada as well?

You will be required to do some tests as part of the interview process. Also if you were educated outside of Canada your diplomas have to be evaluated against Canadian education standards.

To answer almo's question - The government will give preferences to Canadian citizens when considers applicants.

What type of job in the public service you have in mind?

Tsveta,

Nothing specific

(in the thread http://www.jobforum.ca/showthread.php?t=722 I've given a rough description of my background)

However I haven't bothered looking into government service, under the assumption that I'm not likely to find anything-not being a Canadian national.

Hi Bongi,

I don't know what kinds of tests are required, but here's a link for more information on recruitment through CIPO (the Canadian Intellectual Property Office):

There are different test for different positions and they may be used in combinations.
Some of the most common test are: General Administration Test (GAT) http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/ppc/assessment_pg2_oa_e.htm, General Competency Test (GCT) http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/ppc/assessment_pg2_ja_e.htm, and the Office Skills Test (OST) http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/ppc/assessment_pg2_ba_e.htm.
