Hi there

Does anybody know if it is possible for me to visit Canada as a tourist while my application for permanent residence as a skilled worker is being processed. I heard it is not possible in the US. So I wondered what it is like in Canada. Or does anybody know where I can find out?

sounds odd that you can't visit the US (or Canada) while your Permanent Residency is in progress. I've never heard of this (having looked carefully at both US and Canadian immigration laws).

Where did you hear about this?

Hi you can check the Citizenship and Immigration Canada web site for more info:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html

Do you need a visitor visa to come to Canada?

Hi almo81,

Thanks for helping out. A co-worker of mine had problems in the US. Or at least he claimed that he did. I didn't see a problem with it either but I thought I better check it out before I go, Stephan

Hi Tsveta

Thanks for sending me that link. I had already checked it out and couldn't find anything there. So it probably is no problem at all.

Ran into this on the Internet (with regards to U.S. immigration - see Q7)

Of course, you shouldn't trust unfamiliar sites or Forum posters: ;)

So just in case: If you're really worried check with a professional immigration lawyer (there are dozens of them on the internet).

Unless you're planning to enter or stay illegally, it makes little sense IMHO.

Then again, the U.S. law that prohibits prospective Citizens to exit the U.S. for any reason isn't very logical either.

We visited Canada last summer from the UK, our application for permenant residency had been in progress for at least a year by then. No problems at all.
