How much money to bring to Canada?

I have a question about the Landed Immigrants? How much money am I supposed to bring and can I bring half of them and show bank statement for the rest of the money?

Well it used to be $10000 and $2000 for every dependent.
I brought all of my money in Travel Checks but I've heard of people bringing half the money and statement for the rest of the funds in bank account.
