According to a report by CNC Global the demand for IT professionals has reached all time high in the first quarter of 2007. The contract opportunities are twice as much as full time ones! The hottest positions on the market are: Architects which rose to a whopping 330% across Canada! Application developer demand rose to 60%. Web developers are still the most wanted. Web developer position accounts for one in every five jobs.

The skills in demand are SQL, .NET, Java, Oracle, Unix.
There is a lack of specialists with SAP, Websphere, Tivoli, Citrix and .NET Senior professionals.

Still the strongest demand is in Toronto/GTA (it accounts for more than half of the positions in the country) followed by Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax.

Thank you for the good news. Looks like I am on the right track! :)
I somehow knew that. A lot of recruiters are calling me and I don't update my Resume...

Well IT was always in demand but now it seems it is more than ever. I am not surprised the companies need contractors; they need the job done. Contract employees are usually more efficient and get the job done faster than most of the full time employees. (no offence)

The growth in the IT sector will continue with 90,000 new positions in the next three to five years! It now accounts for 3.6% of the Canadian employment. At the same time the college enrollment is down 6% in the last 3 years. I wonder why?

That sounds promising!

I think that the young people lost interest in IT because it is not hype any more. It is not that attractive. It was new 10 years ago and everybody wanted to be in IT, now is just like every other course at the University.
