I am an Australian citizen who is in Canada on a Working Holiday Permit (http://www.whpcanada.org.au/). This permit expires on June 14 of this year. This is a non-specific permit that means I can work for any employer in canada legally...and do not, at any time, need a job offer or to deal with HRSDC.

I applied for permanent residency a few weeks ago, which means I will probably not get first stage approval until around October.

I need to be able to work legally between June 14 and around October when I get first stage approval. Is there any way I can be issued a permit/visa that will allow me to have legal status to work continuously...without having a job offer, or a prospective employer?

Isn't there a way to extend the Working Holiday Permit until October?

The best thing to do is to consult an immigration lawyer here in Canada. They should be able to answer your questions.
