Hello,

I am a US citizen wanting to relocate to Canada for 30 days...at the end of the 30 days I will be getting married to a Canadian citizen. During the 30 days I will be looking for work.

After reviewing the immigrations website I had a few questions.
1. It states that if the boarder officer feels I will not leave I will not be permited to enter the country. Will me stating I am coming for marriage prevent me from entry?

2. It states I cannot apply for a work permit inside Canada unless I have a Temporary Resident Visa for six months to a year. However the site states I do not need one since I am a US citizen. Should I apply for a Visa for six months to a year anyways? And can I apply for this Visa inside Canada? This is only an issue since I want to look for work before I am married, I really do not want to sit around for 30 days doing nothing.

3. Also, does anyone have any suggestions of how I may handle this? This process may be a whole lot simpler and I am just complicating it.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, the best thing to do is to consult an immigration lawyer (http://www.getlawyer.ca/). They know all the rules and will be able to help you. Are you marring a Canadian Citizen or a PR holder?
