Can I start work without PR card?

Hi, I am looking for a job but I don’t have Permanent Resident Card yet.
What are the documents required by the employer before I start work?

You will need you SIN, your landed immigrant papers and Diploma (optional).

That will do. However most of the employers need only your SIN.

I forgot to mention something :). It is a good idea to have a bank account and to give your future employer a void cheque so he can setup automated payment for you.

But how long does it take to get SIN?

Usually 2 weeks. You have to go to the Human Resources Centre of Canada (HRCC) and fill in an application form.
