Hi,
I'm new here. My husband has had a really bad run of of luck with his jobs in the IT field in the past few years. One company was bought out by a larger company and he, along with the rest of the original staff were lt go and two companies ended up not being able to pay him because they weren't doing well financially. Needless to say his self esteem has been battered because he feels like he just can't seem to find a good stable job. Last week he went for an interview with a company that seems just wonderful! The interview lasted for just over 2 1/2 hours (two interviews with different people..1 1/4 hours each roughly) and they talked not only about the job and the company and his his resume, but also about our children, his hobbies etc. He said it felt more like a conversation than an interview. He really thinks the company is the perfect match for his skills and the people are great so he really wants this job. When he got home he called and left a voice mail saying how much he enjoyed the time with both interviewers and how much he'd love to work with them. Should he still follow-up with a note of thanks? They said they'd be in touch by the end of June...would it be Ok to call after a week has gone by just to ask how the process is coming? Would you take it as a good "sign" that the interviews lasted so long? We're both SO nervous about this.

Thanks for your time!

Im not sure about calling straight after the interview. Anyway, thats done so ok.
I would leave it for now, they dont want to become smothered by you.

Wait a week, then perhaps call again.

Good luck :)

I would call after a week to follow up again if I don't hear from them. Good that you've already followed up. This is very important! I wish your husband luck!

Wow that's a long interview. Your husband must have been very tired after the interview. I would definitely call back in a week to let them know I am still interested in the position.

Thank you to those of you who answered my questions! My husband called last week to follow up and the interviewer apologized for not getting back to him sooner and said that their HR person had "moved on" and they were working on that position last week and this week they'd get into the hiring process for the job that he was interested in. So now we're facing week two since the interview...if he hears nothing back this week should he just let it go or should he follow up one more time to see how the process is going? I don't know if it makes a difference but the position is in sales and he'd have to be pretty assertive in the job..I think the line is a fine between being a pest and following up the way he would with a customer in sales. It's so hard to know what to do!

Thank you again for your answers and well wishes!

Did they say when they will make their decision? I would call again in 10 days to follow up. Don't be discouraged, I think they are telling the truth. Meanwhile look around, the job market is good now and he'll be able to find something!

They said they wanted the person hired and in place by June 30th but they said that is also their year end and they're very busy. So I guess we shouldn't be surpirsed if this drags on past June 30th....but the waiting is SO hard!! Thanks for your answer...much appreciated.

I wouldn't be surprised too. They will probably make their decision after the long weekend. Keep your fingers crossed :)
