I am a Canadian Citizen living and working in the U.S. (8 yrs experience as an IT Business Analyst). I would like to return to Canada and to this end have applied for several positions via email and job sites and am in the process of applying for Citizenship Certificates for my children and Family Class sponsorship for my husband.

I'd had some response from recruiters and wonder how to answer: "When can you start?"

I don't want to turn them off by revealing my family's immigration status....
What is the ideal sequence of events for moving to Canada? Do I have to complete all the immigration paperwork before I look for a job? If I do find a job, can we move and then complete the paperwork while in Canada?

Thanks for any comments!

I’m by no means an immigration expert, but I think you can move back to Canada as soon as you find a job and the immigration paper work for your family can be completed in Canada.

My advice is to check the following CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) page giving detail on Family Class Immigration:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor/index.html

You can call CIC and ask them what’s the best thing to do in your case. Here is their contact information:

Best of luck :)

Thanks for your repsonse. I called the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. and they said they could only answer Visa questions - any immigration questions had to go through Buffalo. Unfortunately, Buffalo does not take phone calls!

My sister lives in Canada, can she call the Call Center on my behalf?

Thanks again!

Of course she can call them but I can see no problem for you to call them. You have every right to know what the procedure is and you are a Canadian citizen after all….
