Does this mean that you can still get EI if you're fired for poor performance?

If you have voluntarily quit your job you are not eligible for EI. If you were fired due to "unsatisfactory performance" you may qualify for EI but have to check with the Ministry first or your local HRSDC (http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/home.shtml)office.
