US Citizen wanting a job in Manitoba?

I'm 19 years old, living in Oklahoma. I'm interested in getting a job in Winnipeg so I can move in with my girlfriend. I have a little over six months experience as a cashier and a store clerk (and still counting). What's the best way to find a job in Canada for me? In order to have a job offer before getting my visas and moving and everything, would I be able to call places like Wal-Mart or Dairy Queen or other local stores and see if they offer jobs to foreign workers? Or are there any other ways besides that? Thank you.

I don't think you will be able to find a job as cashier/store clerk in Canada. To get a work permit you need to be more qualified or look for a job in industries where there is shortage. To get a list with such jobs go to CIC web site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.asp
