At the grand age of 27 I am wondering if it would be possible to get some work experience in Canada. I am secretary in London (I am english) and never got to do the whole gap year thing, but would like the opportunity do a bit of work experience in Canada for a month or two returning to blighty. I would like to add this to my CV and also to enjoy a different working day in another country!

Being english, do you think this is something i can approach companies in Canada about this - any ideas? Any advice?

Hi Becky,

You need a job offer before you apply for a work permit. For more info on how to come to work in Canada follow the link to the CIC web site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.html
You can also create online profile on monster.ca and workopolis.com and search for jobs there. Another thing that I would recommend is to contact recruiting agencies. Here is full list of employment agencies (http://www.jobagencies.ca/index.asp?p=1&sp=1)in Canada. Send them emails and call them.

Do you know where in Canada you want to go? Do you want to have the same occupation here?

You may consider finding a contract position in your field but I guess 2 months is really too short. Does it worth the hassle to come for 2 months only? Try at least 3-6 month contract.

yes you are right stephen - I seem to be having a better response by offering my time for at least 6 months, and even being given a chance to get paid for my time!

Hi Beckie, I think you have a good chance to find a job if you apply for 6 month contracts. Where in Canada do you want to go? Keep in mind that the winter here is very cold (not mild like in England) and maybe British Columbia, Vancouver, Victoria will be a better choice for you.
