from an interview for a part-time job? All of the job interview tips I have read are for those looking for a career. I'm being interviewed for a part time position at Staples (office supplies store). Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, the interview questions are almost the same for the most part. It doesn't matter if it is a part-time or full-time position.
From the top 30 interview questions listed here: http://jobforum.ca/showthread.php?t=15

At least 10 questions apply to you:

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. What motivates you?
3. Describe your ideal job.
4. Describe your ideal manager/supervisor.
5. What salary/rate are you looking for?
6. How do you spend your free time?
7. How do you react to criticism?
8. Tell me about yourself. How would you describe yourself?
9. Site some examples of your ability to be a team player.
10. Why should I hire you?
11. How could you contribute to our organization?
12. What do you know about our organization?
13. Why are you interested in working for our organization?

I would expect a mainly HR oriented interview, with annoying questions like the one Tsveta posted in the message above. Don't lose any sleep over it :)

I hate HR interviews. Those people are sooo predictable! They always take notes, and more notes, and more notes...

sorry it took me so long to respond but I have been busy with work :) . I did get the job and have been working there for about 3 weeks now and things are going pretty good. Thanks a lot for the help.

yah, those places require massive xmas staff right now, so pending a criminal record/bad references you should be a sure hit.

What's a good way to answer the question
1. Tell me about yourself?

What I was thinking was to tell them what you currently do, ie. a student and go to xyz university/school...any other suggestions?

Tell them what degrees you have if you have any and a summary of your experience and skills. Also you can mention some of your hobbies and what you do in your spare time.

Hmm, that sounds good. Will keep that in mind!
