Asking if we're unionized?
At an interview, during the candidate's questions period, is asking whether or not we're unionized a legitimate question?
|
Absolutely, I've asked at every job interview I have gone to. Are you worried about any specific issues with asking this question? Whether you love or hate Unions I think most can agree that they change the dynamics of a workplace and so I think any prospective employee is entitled to pose the question about a union to get a better understanding of the company atmosphere.

Honestly, I would like to ask simply because I would want to know whether more money will be deducted from my pay! That's why i'm hesitant to ask such a question...will they see through me and realise it's a financially-motivated interrogation?

I don't see why not. You can ask them anything about the company, their policy and business related questions.

Asking them if they are unionized is a common question; it is like asking them about the vacation package and other benefits…
