American seeking ANY work in Montréal

Hello. My name is Sean, I'm twenty years old and I'm currently visiting some friends that I met this summer in Montréal from my home in California. I have a highschool diploma and have done some studying at community colleges, but i do not have a degree of any kind. I have about six years of work experience; mostly in restaurants and bicycle shops. Since I've been here, I've fallen in love with the people, the culture, and the French language. I would love more than anything the opportunity to come live and work in Montréal to practice my French and live in a different environment for a while. I've done some research about working abroad in Canada. Most of the information seems to pertain to people who are looking for careers here. Am I being realistic in thinking that it would be possible for a foreigner to work a simple job (washing dishes, cleaning offices, stocking shelves, etc.) for six months to a year? Could somebody at least steer me in the correct direction? Merci!!

Hi
A lot of foreigners are hired to work in Canada. It will be easier for you to find a job if you have any skills of work related experience. It doesn't mean that because you are a foreigner you have to "wash dishes". It depends on your education and skills.

Looking for a Job Also

I've had a similar experience though I am older and have a number of skills and career interests. What is the best way for a foreigner to go about finding a job in Montreal from the States? I visited Montreal for a few weeks and am back now and want to move out there by February, pending finding a job.

Any advice people can give is MUCH appreciated!

~Leah

Why Montreal? It is cold and you have to know French to find a job there? Why don't you try Toronto or Vancouver if you want to work in Canada? Besides there are much less job opportunities in Montreal comparing to Toronto or Alberta...
