Are they allowed to "CHECK" salary history?
 

Ive read insome interview books, that said some employers will state they always:, "Check references & salary history". Can they really (are they allowed) do this & do they do it, call your old employer & ask him how much he was paying you? Does it happen, & doesnt it defeat the salary negotiaiton process?

I doubt they will call your previous employer and ask how much he paid you. He is not obliged to tell them and in fact nobody will.

I too don think that any employer will give the information of their salary structure to anyone.
